The situation for some children in Zambia is a true hell. The reality is that these children have to face a series of extremely difficult obstacles to receive a basic education. The lack of basic infrastructure, such as passable roads and public transport, makes walking long distances the only option to get to school. But this is not as easy as it seems, as many of these rural areas are full of dangers.
The terrain is rugged and full of hazards, such as venomous snakes and wild animals, lurking around every corner. In addition, weather conditions can be extremely harsh, especially during the rainy season, making the roads even more dangerous. Children often have to cross swollen rivers to get to school, putting their lives at risk. Bridges are scarce, and many of them are in poor condition, making them dangerous to cross.
But even those who decide to take the risk and go to school have no guarantee of receiving a quality education. The lack of basic resources, such as clean water, toilets, and adequate educational materials, makes many schools inhospitable places. Children often have to share seats and desks in overcrowded classrooms, making it difficult for them to concentrate and learn. In many schools, there is no electricity, which means that children have no access to any technology that could help them in their education.
The extreme poverty that many children in Zambia face is another major obstacle they must overcome. Many of them do not have enough food to stay healthy and nourished, which severely affects their ability to learn and their overall health. Children often have to walk long distances on an empty stomach, making it even harder to concentrate in school. In addition, many of these children also face diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis, further reducing their ability to attend school and learn.
It is easy to look at these children and feel pity, but the truth is that their situation is much worse than any of us can imagine. These children struggle to obtain a basic education so they can have a better future, but the lack of resources, support, and international attention has left these children in a desperate situation. It is time for serious and effective measures to be taken to address this humanitarian crisis and ensure that all children have access to a proper and safe education, regardless of their place of origin. Education is the path to equality and progress, and the children of Zambia deserve to have the same opportunities as any other child in the world.
